The bisexual community has an inside joke that describes what it’s like to date as a bi person: People think it means double the options or double the fun, but it really just means double the rejection. Self-deprecating jokes like this one are at the core of the Single People Club regardless of sexuality, but bisexual people do face extra roadblocks in the dating world. True: Online dating sucks for everyone. Horny jerks disguise themselves as relationship seekers, your DMs are constantly filled with bad pickup lines and overly-persistent creeps, and many times, the site’s algorithm ignores the filters that you’ve set. But the fact that there are no dating sites that cater specifically to bi people means that they’re frequently swiping on people who don’t take bisexuality seriously. The unique dating challenges that bi people face boil down to one rigid concept: being too gay for some and too straight for others. One of the most antiquated stereotypes about bisexual people is that they’re always down to fuck and down for polyamory. Of course, they don’t mention this until later.

Want to share yours? The first married Frenchman to ask me on a date was my bank manager. We had nearly finished the weeks-long process of establishing my FATCA-compliant banking account, and as he printed the last of the forms for my signature, he suggested we celebrate the completion of my paperwork with a drink. I hedged, fearful that if I rejected him outright, the establishment of my bank account, a necessary element of my residency permit application, would be delayed.
The second married Frenchman to ask me on a date was the owner of the chicken rotisserie stand across the street from my apartment.

The duo hosts the hilarious podcast, Girls Gotta Eat , which is full of raw and relevant humor that hits on exactly what it’s like to be a single millennial lady in New York City. At the time I was interviewing them for an article on dating trends in and simultaneously contemplating a move from San Francisco to New York. I asked them about dating experiments and they shared an idea they had to challenge themselves to 30 dates in 30 days, that they ultimately decided was more trouble than it was worth.
This comedy duo’s throwaway idea piqued my interest. I imagined this was a great way to get to know a new city, hit the ground running on my romantic life in the New Year , and test my dating prowess. We asked women of all different sexual orientations about their first time lesbian experiences and same-sex encounters. Here are their stories:. In our early 30s, my husband and I decided to open our marriage to some sexual exploration and went on a date with a couple. We immediately hit it off. While the woman and I kissed that night, we didn’t take it any further—I think that we were both too nervous.
